St. Joseph Mercy expands Senior Fit program

St. Joseph Mercy Oakland (SJMO) has expanded its free Senior Fit program to six sites throughout Oakland County. Registration is being accepted for the free programs, which are geared for adults age 55 and up.

Senior Fit is aimed at improving stamina, lowering blood pressure and decreasing the risk of osteoporosis among senior adults through regular exercise. The program uses chair and floor exercises that build strength and flexibility, help maintain strong bones, control body fat, reduce stress and improve an individual’s sense of well-being.

An initiative of SJMO’s Senior Services program, Senior Fit offers free, one-hour exercise programs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at the following locations:

Apostolic Church
3655 N. Squirrel Rd., Auburn Hills
9:30-10:30 a.m.

St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church
69 S. Astor, Pontiac
11 a.m.-noon

St. Anastasia Roman Catholic Church
4571 John R Rd., Troy
1-2 p.m.

Gerry Kulick Community Center
1201 Livernois, Ferndale
9:30-10:30 a.m.

Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church
9101 Highland Rd., White Lake
11 a.m.-noon

Senior Fit meets Mondays, Thursday and Fridays at this location only:
Waterford Senior Center

Waterford
1-2 p.m.

The fall session begins Sept. 12 and runs through Dec. 23. A Senior Fit consent form must be signed by each participant’s physician prior to the first class. Consent forms may be picked up at each exercise site. Individuals must register to participate in the free sessions.
