Inforum hosts dinner with Candace Matthews, Amway executive

Grand Rapids - Meet Candace Matthews: Sister to 17 siblings, mother to three children, wife to a stay-at-home dad and an inspiration to us. Matthews is helping change the face of what we think of as a corporate executive, and she's coming to Inforum's podium on Monday, February 1, 2010, to share some of the secrets to her success.

Matthews, Chief Marketing Officer at Amway, grew up as the youngest in a family of 18 children, the daughter of a pastor. Neither parent went to college. Matthews' father taught her the challenges of growing up as an African American and told her that the key to success was education.

Now Matthews is one of the newest additions at Amway. Through her business prowess and inventiveness, she is helping turn Amway into an even more dynamic global powerhouse. Recently, she was selected as Black Enterprise magazine's "Corporate Executive of the Year", the first private-company executive to receive this honor. Previous "Corporate Executive of the Year" winners include executives from McDonald's, Ford, CNBC and Aetna.

Matthews also appeared on the cover of the September issue of Black Enterprise. The magazine describes her forging a marketing approach that "blends innovation, technology and interpersonal relationships."

The event begins with registration and networking at 5 p.m., followed by dinner and presentation at 5:30 p.m. at the Goei Center, 818 Butterworth St. SW, Grand Rapids. Cost for members is $50, non-member cost is $70; table of 10, $650 (Includes special seating and recognition at event).
