The Reproductive Medicine Network (RMN) plans to launch a series of clinical trials, including a University of Michigan Hospital site, that will address four aspects of reproductive medicine: female infertility, male infertility, in vitro fertilization (IVF), and multiple gestations as a result of ovarian stimulation.
For infertile women diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), the RMN Pregnancy in PCOS (PPCOS) trial is aimed at determining the efficacy of several medications designed to aid in the achievement of conception and a live birth outcome.
For men with impaired fertility, an abnormal semen analysis and a palpable varicocele, the RMN Varicocele trial will examine the effect of Microsurgical Varicocelectomy on conception and a live birth outcome.
For couples who undergo In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) procedures, the RMN Physiologic Oxygen (PhOx) study is aimed at determining a more effectual oxygen level in the culture media which will improve live birth rates.
For couples with unexplained infertility who undergo ovarian stimulation treatments, the RMN Multiple Gestations (MGOS) trial examines medications designed to reduce the occurrence of multiple gestational pregnancies.
Approximately 750 women will participate in this study throughout the US and about 100 women will participate at the University of Michigan. This is a four-year study with approximately three years remaining. Each participant will be in the study for a total of five cycles or 20 weeks or until they have a positive pregnancy test, whichever occurs first.
