Southfield, MI – September 8, 2009 – The Michigan Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society has announced that it has been selected from hundreds of applicants as a winner of the 2009 Alfred P. Sloan Award for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility, to be presented by the Detroit Regional Chamber and Michigan Economic Development Corporation at an event on Friday, September, 11, 2009. This is the first time any MS Society Chapter has received this honor.
In an economic climate considered the worst since the Great Depression all sectors of the economy are severely challenged. The question: To what extent can employers continue offer good places for employees to work while dealing with these very difficult survival issues?
The winners of the Alfred P. Sloan Awards for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility are organizations that find this middle ground. Michigan Chapter President Elana Sullivan notes: “In these tough times retaining our talent is of paramount importance to me. I congratulate our entire staff for their commitment to our cause, their creative input that maintains a positive work environment, and their willingness to go above and beyond expectations on a regular basis.”
Each of the 2009 Sloan Award winners will also be recognized nationally and will be featured in next year's edition of the Guide to Bold New Ideas for Making Work Work, published by Families and Work Institute.
