Volunteers being honored at the event, held Thursday, January 20, 4:30-6:30 p.m., at the Somerset Inn, 2601 West Big Beaver, Troy, include Allison Kaplan, Bloomfield Hills, Joni Hubred-Golden, Farmington, Kathy Elston, Waterford, and Diana Lewis of WXYZ.
Kaplan and the Michigan Farmer Coalition in Troy will receive the Presidents Award selected by HAVEN’s President/CEO in recognition of having made a significant contribution to HAVEN’s mission in the past year. Hubred-Golden, publisher of MichiganWomensForum.com will be given the Voice for Victims Award as a person that has used their celebrity and/or ability to reach out to the public in the past year to raise awareness of HAVEN’s issues. The Phoenix Award, given to a survivor or group of survivors that have courageously raised their voice against violence and have used their personal story to encourage and inspire others, goes to HAVEN board member Kathy Elston.
Diana Lewis of WXYZ will receive the Heart of HAVEN Award, which is given to an individual who truly emulates the work and vision of HAVEN. This person has dedicated their life to raise his/her voice against violence and has made a significant impact in the community.
In addition to the individual awards, three corporations, Humana of Troy, Charter One of Southfield and iscg workplace design and furnishings of Royal Oak are being recognized as a Corporate Champion for Change at the event for their support of Haven’s mission and messages.
Individual event tickets are $50 each and include hors d’oeuvres and dessert as well as two drink tickets.
Patron tickets are also available for $109 and table sponsorships are available for $1090, which includes admission for ten guests. Proceeds from the event will support HAVEN’s critical services for victims of domestic and sexual violence. It costs $109 for a family of four to stay at the emergency shelter for one night and $1090 for a family to stay in HAVEN’s emergency shelter for 10 days.
