The Friendship Circle of Michigan’s director and co-founder, Bassie Shemtov, was published on Mashable.com as a guest contributor on September 20, 2010.
Mashable.com is the world's largest blog focused exclusively on Web 2.0 and Social Media news. The Friendship Circle of Michigan was the winner of a $100,000 grant from the national Chase Community Giving Contest back in January of 2010. The Friendship Circle was chosen by Facebook users as the #4 charity out of 500,000 participants.
Throughout their participation in the Chase Community Giving Challenge, The Friendship Circle developed and executed a strategy for competing in online contests. With charitable contests in abundance this summer, The Friendship Circle has taken their story and strategy “on the road” in an effort to assist other nonprofits in harnessing their online communities.
Shemtov recently spoke at a Social Media Club Detroit gathering. In attendance were other local nonprofits eager to learn about the strategy that proved successful for The Friendship Circle.
On October 20, Shemtov will be a featured speaker at the 140 Conference at the Fillmore in Detroit. The 140 Conference, organized by Jeff Pulver, provides a platform for the worldwide social media community to listen, connect, share and engage with each other, while collectively exploring the effects of the emerging real-time internet on business.
