The product launch for a new cooperative venture aimed at helping homeless children has been announced by COTS of Detroit. On Saturday, November 14, 2009, at Hope Lutheran Church in Farmington Hills, COTS will debut its "Chari-tea", an herbal infusion "tea" with a charitable aftertaste. Packaged tea will be available for sale to the public, at Hope Lutheran's 9th annual Alternative Christmas Fair.
COTS Chief Development Officer, Lynn Wilhelm, collaborated with Linda Shannon and her partners at Chartreuse Ltd. of Trenton, MI on the tea concept.
"For us, this is a very exciting project, because it will involve our kids in a form of 'social enterprise' and teach them an interesting business," notes Wilhelm. "It's a natural way to introduce them to opportunities they may not have had otherwise," she continued. "The tea is an unique 'Hibiscus Quench Blend', proprietary to Chartreuse, and a significant portion of the proceeds from sales will go to funding the COTS mission," observes Shannon.
A gift set, which includes a canister of tea ($15.00) and a special teapot ($25.00), is also available.
The Alternative Christmas Fair will be held from 10 am to 3 pm at Hope Lutheran Church, 39200 West 12 Mile Road, just east of Haggerty in Farmington Hills, MI. There is a $1 admission fee at the door. Call 248-553-7170 for additional information. Tea may also be purchased on-line at http://www.chartreuseltd.com/.

COTS Cheryl P. Johnson Selected as McGregor Fund, Eugene A. Miller Fellow
COTS announced today that CEO Cheryl P. Johnson received one of three McGregor Fund, Eugene A. Miller Fellows Program grants, which have been awarded to support sabbaticals for Chief Executives from exceptional, area non-profits.
For this inaugural launch of the fellowship, Ms. Johnson designed a sabbatical that focuses on intensive life coaching and reflection, allowing her to acquire the necessary skills to train others in the role of a life coach. Ms. Johnson was selected for her distinguished record of accomplishment, her demonstrated ability to lead and motivate staff and her leadership stature among peers in the human services field at large.
The program, announced in April 2009, honors McGregor Fund trustee and former board chairman Eugene A. Miller, retired Chairman and CEO of Comerica Bank and an exemplary community leader over his many decades of volunteer service. The program awards up to three grants annually of up to $50,000 each to selected human services agencies. It recognizes excellence in the leadership of an agency by the agency's president, executive director or founder. In addition to providing financial support for sabbatical expenses, grants made under the Miller Fellows Program may also be used to support direct costs incurred by the agencies while their executives are on leave.
