The Leaven Center offers space for individual silent retreats the second Wednesday and Thursday of each month in the Lodge. Retreatants can come for Wednesday or Thursday only, for Wednesday and stay over Wednesday night, for Wednesday night and stay over Thursday --- or for the entire time. There is no programming --- the time is yours to make of it what you choose. Overnight retreatants each will have their own room --- maximum for overnight is seven. Bring your own food for meals; snacks and beverages provided. Daytime guests will have use of the grounds and the common areas of the Lodge. Learn more on Leaven's Web site.
Dwelling in God: Preparing for Advent

Enter the beautiful dwelling of The Leaven Center and intentionally invite God into your preparations for "God's coming"; clean up your dwelling place, sort out the messes, dwell comfortably, safely, both alone and with others, in the presence of God. Men and women are both welcome. Facilitator Carol Ingells is an experienced spiritual director and retreat leader who focuses on contemplative prayer and the practice of silence and solitude. Leadership in Dealing With Difficult Multicultural Discussions*

Have you ever found yourself in a difficult multicultural discussion with friends, family, co-workers, community members or others? Perhaps in a conversation where you wished that you could respond in a different way to an inappropriate behavior, remark or joke? The purpose of "Leadership in Dealing With Difficult Multicultural Discussions: A One-Day Workshop on Finding Voice through Positive Confrontation" is to provide a framework and practical experiences for participants to speak up, use their voice and practice taking leadership in difficult multicultural discussions.
The workshop provides participants with multiple tools and approaches to respond to language and situations that challenge their commitment to work to diminish the barriers of racism, sexism, ableism, and the other oppressive "isms." Karen Pace is a program leader for Michigan State University Extension-Children, Youth, Families and Communities with more than 25 years experience teaching and facilitating educational programs in communities. Dionardo Pizaña is the diversity and personnel specialist for Michigan State University Extension, with numerous years of experience developing, teaching, and facilitating diversity education programs through MSUE, MSU, Adrian College, and Siena Heights University. Just Preaching: Igniting a Passion for the Common Good

In this workshop we will explore a variety of strategies to help people move through resistance and become more passionate for the common good. We will discuss and experience different sermon forms such as Sermon as Image, Sermon as Parable, and Sermon as Narrative Retelling. Participants are invited to bring sermons that didn’t work, sermons that went well and sermons they are working on. Together, we will create sermons that make hope as tangible as despair. Event is gender inclusive.

Let A Story Be Told: A Weekend for Women to Explore, Create, Tell and Write Our Story

Join speaker, writing consultant and story artist Jenifer Strauss for a weekend of storytelling and deep listening. Jen will guide participants through her personal narrative model called Turning Points™, a series of explorative and overlapping storytelling activities that lead to the telling (and writing) of Turning Points in your life that have caused great learning, growth, and change. The Turning Points Personal Narrative Model is a storytelling and story writing process that can continue to be used long after this weekend workshop concludes.* During our time together, participants will be given time for personal reflection, movement and creative expression to enrich the telling and writing experience. We will gather together to share our stories in an environment of mutual support, deep listening and community. This event is for women. Cost: $190 ($75 deposit; $115 balance due).
