Michigan woman to perform at 9-11 memorial

ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN – Michigan songwriter Kitty Donohoe, whose award-winning song will be featured in an upcoming documentary film, will be performing on September 11 at the unveiling ceremony of the Pentagon 9/11 Memorial in Washington, DC.

Donohoe’s recording “There Are No Words,” which was awarded a Michigan Emmy in 2002, was selected to be part of the documentary film “A Nation Remembers: The Story of the Pentagon Memorial.” The film, hosted by actor Gary Sinise, is a collection of interviews with family members of 9-11 victims.

Donohoe’s song is played in the film’s soundtrack as a montage of photos of victims is run across the screen. The film is being released to coincide with the unveiling of the 9-11 Pentagon Memorial. DVD copies will be presented to surviving family members of victims, will be shown on the Pentagon Channel/Armed Forces Network, and eventually on network television.

Donohoe, accompanied by Michigan musicians David Mosher and Pooh Stevenson ,will sing “There Are No Words” during the televised Pentagon Memorial dedication ceremony.

“There Are No Words” is included in Kitty Donohoe’s new CD, “Northern Border,” which is available online at CDBaby.com. The lyrics to the song include these words:

“We were forged in freedom, we were born in liberty
We came here to stop the twisted arrows cast by tyranny
And we won’t bow down, we are strong of heart
We are a chain together that won’t be pulled apart”

Donohoe, currently based in Ann Arbor, wrote the song on the day of the terrorist attacks, her own response to the horror that was unfolding by the hour. After performing it a few nights later at a public gathering, she was urged to record it and give the CD singles away, hundreds of which were sent around the nation and around the world.

“One of the comments I received most often then was that the song was expressing for people what they couldn’t say for themselves,” Donohoe said. “I consider it an honor for my song to have a place at the Pentagon 9/11 Memorial and to be invited to perform it for the country.”
